Il warrant for the apprehension of Walter Jackson was duly issued by Police Magistrate in Hongtong; and

an

officer of police charged with the warrant left for Shanghae by the

first steamer. Meanwhile the- Superintendent of Police in Hougtong by telegraph requested the head of the police in Shanghae to apprehend Walter Jackson on the Arrival of the "Nankin" - informing him that the felony had been committed the warrant issued and that the officer had been or would be despatched by the first steamer.

The police at Shanghae upon this telegram apprehended Walter Jackson, who however proved to be an American citizen, and the warrant was dropped. Credible information has since been received by the Hong-
